Mission Statement

In Seamus Heaney’s poem “Oysters” the speaker faces an internal conflict in which he relishes in the “perfect memory” of eating oysters with friends while also dealing with the anger and “glut of privilege” that allows him such refined experiences.

I ate the day
Deliberately, that its tang
Might quicken me all into verb,
pure verb

It is our mission to cast a lens on privilege in modern society. To open the gaping wound of expectation and dig deeply into the moment when pleasure is met with guilt or shame with an expectation to bring both feelings to the forefront and explore the complexity of this dynamic in ourselves and society.
